THE BERKELEY INSTITUTE FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES

The Berkeley Institute for Islamic Studies (BLIIS) is a non-profit cultural magazine that was established in 2017. BLIIS is based in Berkeley, California, and it was founded with the goal of promoting scholarship on Islam and Islamicate culture. BLIIS offers insight into religion and society by engaging with contemporary issues, Muslim history, and future trends from a confessional perspective.

The Institute’s mission is to cultivate both moral and historical literacy in an age of fluidity and echo-chambers. BLIIS encourages an interdisciplinary problem-solving approach to education, with the goal of creating conscientious critical thinkers.
